Darlene Ness

Darlene Ann Ness, 85 passed away peacefully on January 15th 2014 surrounded by her family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley in Moorhead, MN.

Darlene Ann Driscoll was born November 5th, 1928 in Glyndon, MN to Charles and Barbara Driscoll. Darlene was raised on the Driscoll Family Farm just outside of Glyndon, MN. She attended and graduated from Glyndon High School in 1946. She then attended and graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. After graduating, she started her career at The Bell Telephone Company in Fargo. Darlene married Milton Ness on April 19th, 1949 and they began their life together. Milton’s employment took them to many places including California, South Dakota, Rochester and Dilworth MN. They settled in Moorhead, MN in 1966 where they would raise their three children, Greg, Steve, and Kelli.

Darlene and Milton enjoyed their large group of friends, entertaining, traveling, and family gatherings. One of their biggest joys was their lake home on Cotton Lake in Northern MN. The entire family enjoyed all the lake had to offer boating, skiing, and entertaining.

In March of 1977, Milton suddenly passed away. Darlene never remarried, but found comfort in her family and friends. She enjoyed following all of her children’s sporting activities. She had a special place in her heart for her hockey family which she shared many trips and memories. Darlene enjoyed playing cards, cooking, coffee and family time. Darlene had a kind and gentle heart with a quick wit that everyone loved. She was an excellent judge of character and wasn’t afraid to tell you. She had many friends over the years and loved spending time with them.

She is survived by her children, Greg Kim Ness, Steve Heidi Ness, and Kelli Todd Dronen; eight grandchildren, Taylor Ness, Logan Ness, Trey Ness, Paityn Ness, Zander Ness, Parker Dronen, Maxwell Dronen, and Olivia Dronen all of Moorhead; one brother, Charles Chuck Driscoll, Moorhead; one sister, Barbara Dokken, Maryland; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Ness; parents, Charles and Barbara Driscoll; brother, Connie Driscoll; sisters, Mary Solberg and Helen Anschutz.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Funeral: Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at 11:00 A.M., in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.
Visitation: Wednesday, January 22, 2014, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., at St. Joseph’s.
Interment: St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
