Darrell H. Schultz

Schultz, Darrell H., 74, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from complications due to Parkinson's disease in Wichita, KS.Darrell was born February 3, 1936 in Fargo, ND to Sylvia and Hans Homer Schultz. He graduated from high school in Hawley, MN and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 1957. He married Mary Herrick in 1957, and together they had four children. In 1978, he married Betty Holterud Johnson. Darrell began his career in the insurance business at Kemper Insurance Company in Chicago, IL He moved back to Fargo in 1958 and joined Western States Life Insurance Company. He moved to McPherson, KS in 1978 as CEO of Alliance life Insurance Company. He later accepted a position with United Heritage as CEO in Boise, ID. He retired in 1999. He was active throughout his life in a variety of service groups including Kiwanis, Masons, and Junior Achievement. Darrell was an active member of the Bridge Studio, a Life Master in duplicate bridge and enjoyed fishing at Pelican Lake.He is preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Kuehl, father, H. Homer and step-son, Brett Johnson.He is survived by his wife, Betty of Wichita; his children, Mary Russ Kuzel of Minneapolis, MN, Ron Schultz, of Detroit Lakes, MN, Kathy Matt Magness of Fargo, ND and Karen Dalton of Coppell, TX; step-daughter, Laurie Rob Boorigie of Wichita and step-daughter-in-law, Linda Johnson of Redwing, MN; brothers, Alan Sylvia Schultz of Missouri City, TX and Meredith Kathy Schultz of Fargo, ND; sister, Mary Heimark of Sun City West, AZ; step-father, Norman Kuehl of Moorhead, MN; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, S-1509, NY, NY 10018.
