David C. Costello

David Charles Costello, 75, of Dilworth, MN, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, surrounded by family at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND. David was born on March 21, 1947, to Robert and Faye (Bundy) Costello in Spring Valley, MN. The family moved to Sauk Centre, MN where David started school. When he was 6 years old, his family moved to Dilworth. David graduated from Dilworth High School in 1965.

After graduation, David worked for Duane’s Pizza for which he had many fond memories. At age 20, he started working as a dental technician for Welu Dental Lab where he continued to work until his retirement in 2011.

After retirement, David took a part time paraprofessional position at DGF elementary where his main duty was supervising the playground. He was referred to as “Grandpa Dave” by many of the children he supervised. He enjoyed this position for several years and made many friends. His special “girls” were Sarah and Kari who he would “go out with” occasionally and always looked forward to seeing them.

When his sons started school at DGF, David decided to run for the school board committee and was elected. He served on the board for over 15 years. After his sons completed their education at DGF, David decided to retire from the school board because he always felt that school board members should have children attending DGF.

David wasn’t too excited about going to Disney World for the first time in 2007, but after that first trip, he was hooked. He, along with his wife, made several trips to Disney World. The last planned trip to Florida had to be cancelled due to the COVID shutdown. Grumpy was his favorite character and he owned many Grumpy t-shirts and pins. He also loved going to Las Vegas and seeing the lights and the shows.

David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bernadette (Turchin), sons, Matthew (Jamie) Costello of Moorhead, MN, and Andrew (Jackie Feil) Costello of West Fargo, ND. He is also survived by the two most precious people in his life, granddaughters Phoebe and Zoey. Also surviving David are his siblings, Shirley (David) DiBrito, Cold Spring, MN, Peggy Blake, Dilworth, MN, Linda

(Douglas) Hunter, Fargo, ND, Dennis (Kim) Costello, Moorhead, MN, Michael (Cindy) Costello, St. Joseph, MN, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
