David Eugene Corwin

David Eugene Corwin, 63, of Ulen, MN, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019, in Sanford Health Hospital, Fargo, ND. David was born on May 28, 1955, to Gene and Adeline (Melby) Corwin in Fargo, ND.

David grew up on the family farm in Ulen, MN. He graduated from Ulen/Hitterdal High School in 1973. David was united in marriage to Lorelei Nord on July 5, 1974 in Ulen, MN.

David attended Moorhead State where he played football as a center for three years. He graduated from Moorhead State in 1978 with a degree in physical education and mathematics. Upon graduation, he received his first teaching job in southern Minnesota where he taught for several years. David and his family moved to Tucson, AZ where he taught math and coached football for 5 years. They moved again to Valley City in 1991 where David was the head football coach and taught math for 27 years. He earned his Masters of Education degree from Minot State University. He retired from teaching in May of 2017 and moved back to the family farm in Ulen, MN.

David was seen by many as a gentle giant who could make friends with just about everyone and was first to lend a hand to a neighbor in need. He enjoyed gardening, doing yard work or anything outdoors. He would also try his hand at woodworking when he had the time for it making small pieces of furniture for his family. David loved card games, specifically poker, and enjoyed trying to find the mathematical equation to any game he was playing to give him that upper hand. Sports played a very important role in his life, whether through his coaching career or watching the Twins and Vikings play at home. His mind was always working and he would write down plays for his teams to practice.

Above all, David was a devoted and amazing father and husband. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.

David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lorelei; children, Casey (Christina) Corwin and Erin (Ashley Diestel) Corwin; sister, Judy Corwin; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Adeline; sister, Susan Davis; and brother, James Corwin.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN.

David’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the Ulen Rescue Squad for their dedicated assistance on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the Ulen Rescue Squad.
