David L. Schmidt

David L. Schmidt, 80, Fargo, ND, died on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Dave was born on April 14, 1935, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Herman and Bertha Pedersen Schmidt. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Fergus Falls High School in 1953. Dave married Patricia Busko on July 21, 1956, in Fergus Falls, and they made their home in Moorhead.
He worked for various construction companies around Fargo-Moorhead before starting his own, Dave Schmidt Construction, in 1970. His son Dave joined him as a partner in 1978. Dave retired in 1997. His wife Patricia died on August 20, 1991 and he moved to Fargo in 1993. On September 19, 1998, Dave married Marion Jacobson in Fargo at Atonement Lutheran Church. They travelled together and for the past twelve years spent the winters in Yuma, AZ.
Dave’s passions were hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed watching old western shows and movies on television.
Dave is survived by his wife, Marion, Fargo ND; son David S. Schmidt Chris Gauthier, Moorhead, MN; daughter Ann Schmidt, Fargo, ND; granddaughters Chelsea Quin Williams and Breanna Tanner Lee; step-daughters Carrie Larry Johnson, Fargo, ND, Dee Ann Chuck Gundberg, Fargo, ND; step-grandchildren, Shane and Mason Nicklaus, and Riley Gundberg; sister Alvina Jacobson, East Grand Forks, ND. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia; and siblings Alice Van Raden, Annabelle Stenersen, and Charles Schmidt.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Memorial Gathering: Friday, December 4, 2015, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Memorial Service: Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. in Atonement Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
Final Resting Place: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
