David Hoglin was a good man, a good father, and a loving husband. Dave believed in doing the right thing, even when it wasn’t easy. He told stories and loved a good joke; he appreciated a good sense of humor. He believed in being nice and had no tolerance for arrogance. He loved cars and loved driving around, even when he didn’t have anywhere specific to go.
Dave loved music too – all kinds of music, but he was especially fond of good guitar players. His own Gibson guitar was his pride and joy, which he played well but dreamed of playing expertly. He did take lessons but his love of people and conversation was more of a priority than solitary practice hours.
He loved to talk and listen to stories; that’s probably what made him a good newsman (WWTC Radio, KFGO Radio, WDAY TV, KTHI TV, KXJB TV). He loved the news, journalism, and writing. He wasn’t up for flash and dash, just basic, good writing.
He loved good food, all kinds of food. Often after a good home cooked meal, he would declare it to be, “the best meal I’ve ever had!” He loved gatherings and throwing a good party, and he always made sure there were plenty of beverages and would stock up (overstock) on ice. Ice was very important.
He loved animals too and couldn’t abide cruelty to them. He loved watching the antics of our Golden Retriever puppy and was pleased when she would snuffle him awake in the mornings with wet kisses and a wagging tail.
Dave had many things that he loved, but most important to him was family and friends. That’s how we remember him most.
Dave passed away on April 14th, 2020. He suffered for many years with cancer and it finally took his life.
