David Richard Givers, 78, of West Fargo, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018, in Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo, ND. David was born on September 11, 1940 to Thad and Frances (Bogielczyk) Givers in Hammond, IN. The family moved to Rogers, Arkansas where David attended schools in Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1961.
David entered the military serving in the Navy as an intelligence officer for five years. He met Juneve Anderson in Denver, CO, while serving the Navy. They were united in marriage on May 8, 1965. They explored the country together before moving to Moorhead, MN, in 1972 where David attended Moorhead State University to earn his second Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He later attended NDSU, graduating with a master’s degree in resource management. He worked various jobs in resource management until becoming the NDSU Director for the North Dakota EPSCOR program. Here, he worked on developing programs with North Dakota tribal colleges for students to attain professional degrees, along with allocating grant money for student and professor research.
David was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed his eleven-mile daily commute at the age of 65. He was an active member of Veterans for Peace, conducting his last meeting from his bedside at Bethany a week before his passing. He was also an active member for the local chapter of North Country Trails, building and maintaining rural hiking trails. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking AMTRAK trips out to Seattle to visit his son and his family.
Survivors include his wife, Juneve Givers; children, Amity (Brad) Cook and Jeremiah (Jenna) Givers; grandchildren, Andy and Logan Cook, and Elliot Givers; brother, Ted (Joyce) Givers; nephew, John Givers; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thad and Frances; and brother, Norman.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Moorhead, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
