David Wayne Nichols, 71, Climax, MN passed away Friday, October 11th, 2019.
Dave was born May 3rd, 1948 to Clifford and Katie (Fevig) Nichols. He grew up in Enderlin, ND and graduated from Enderlin High School. After high school, he moved to Fargo and attended NDSU, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. On June 12th, 1970 he was joined in marriage to Sandra Enger at the Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. In September of 1970, he was drafted into the Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, NC. After his service he returned to Fargo, where he and Sandy lived. He then obtained his Education degree at NDSU. In 1973, he took a job in the Veteran’s Farm Management Program at Crookston, MN. He taught a couple years at the University of Minnesota Crookston, MN. A few years later, he and his family built their home in Climax, MN. At Climax High School, he was the Agriculture/Industrial Arts teacher and FFA Advisor “Here by the Owl…” until he retired in 2008. He obtained his Masters of Science degree from NDSU in 1986. He was a member of the Climax Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, teaching Sunday and Vacation Bible school. Dave was part of the Climax Volunteer Fire Fighters for more than 30 years and served one term as Mayor of Climax. He was a member of the American Legion Post #336, Nielsville, MN for 46 years.
Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing with his Dad, family and friends, spending time at the lake, July 4th festivities, happy hour and karaoke in the garage at Upper Cormorant. He could fix almost anything and often would be working on some project with a radio close-by tuned to Froggy.
He is survived by his wife Sandra; daughters Susan Nichols, Waite Park, MN and Marcia Nichols and son-in-law Michael Sprandel, River Falls, WI; cousins Vernell (Mary) Nichols, Ulen, MN, LaDean (Joanne) Nichols, Aline (David) Flaten, and Kendall (Monica) Nichols, all of Hawley, MN; brother-in-law Neil Enger, Mayville, ND; sister-in-law Pam (Jim) Mostad, Minot, ND; and several great cousins and their children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Katie and Cliff Nichols, Lake Park, MN; and mother and father-in-law Sophie and Percy Enger, Mayville, ND.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 2019 at 2:00 P.M., with a visitation starting at 1:00 P.M., at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley, MN. Interment will be at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Ulen, MN.
