Delmer P. Johnk

Delmer Perry Johnk was born October 3, 1927, in rural Sabin, MN, to Fred and Marie Kuehl Johnk; he was the youngest of thirteen children. He grew up and worked on the family farm and attended Onan Country School, rural Sabin, MN. In 1951 he entered the U.S. Army and served for two years.

On February 14, 1957, Delmer married the love of his life, Ruth Joann Williams at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin. They farmed and raised their family in rural Clay County south of Sabin for many years. He was active in the church and served in many roles. In 1983, Delmer and Ruth moved to Sabin and both continued working into retirement. They were married more than 50 years. After Ruth’s death in 2007, he moved to River Pointe, Moorhead, MN, and most recently to Eventide Lutheran Home.

When it came to his family, Delmer was loving and selfless. Nothing mattered more to him. He remembered everyone’s birthday, never missed his grandchildren’s milestone celebrations and made great efforts to stay up to date on what everyone was doing.

Delmer was proud to have served his country and many of his most entertaining stories centered around his time as a military policeman in the Army. He enjoyed gardening and raising flowers at his home in Sabin.

He is survived by a son, Dan Kellee Johnk, their children, Kamron, Kadin, Karra great-grandchildren Hallie and Harper all of Sabin; two daughters, Susan Robert Johnson, Moorhead, and their children, Stephanie Justin Gambill, Grand Rapids, MN, Derek, Brendan and Kyle all of Moorhead; and Deb Sherman Syverson, and their children Ty, Drew and Alec, Moorhead; a brother, Lester Johnk, Sabin; a sister, Elda Lewis, Moorhead. He was preceded in death by his wife; a granddaughter, Krista Johnk; 10 siblings and his parents.
