Delores Marie Hagene

Due to anticipated weather conditions, the funeral has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 5th.

Delores Marie Hagene, age 92, passed away on Thursday, March 27th, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

Delores was born near Wendell, MN to Ervin and Edna (Rood) Muth on December 17th, 1932. She grew up on the family farm in Nashua. Following High School graduation from the Tintah Consolidated High School, Delores completed her Associate of Education degree in 1956 and Bachelor of Science degree in 1960 from Moorhead State Teachers College. During her 40 year teaching career she taught in elementary grades at Carlisle, Nashua, Alexandria, Dilworth, and finally at Glyndon where she spent the majority of her career until retiring in 1997. Delores was very talented in her teaching abilities and educated thousands of students over the years affecting their lives in a positive way. She never forgot a student’s name or face until her later years in life and always enjoyed seeing former students and fondly recalling her teaching days. She also greatly enjoyed getting together with her former Teacher colleagues at the Fry’n Pan for their monthly gatherings.

On June 8, 1957, she married the love of her life, Valdemar Hagene, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Nashua. They remained an inseparable pair for the next 55 years until Valdemar passed away on September 25th, 2012. Following their marriage, Delores and Valdemar lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area until settling on a farm 10 miles northeast of Moorhead in 1966. Together they had two children, Gerald (Fargo) and David (New Prague). They built a new house on the same property in 1978 where they remained until Valdemar’s passing. Delores loved to feed the birds and garden in the summer months. She kept a daily diary for many years recording weather and bird sighting details always documenting the date her beloved Orioles returned each year. Family was important to Delores and always attended her boy’s activities including 4-H and baseball games over the years. She especially enjoyed the times spent together with family and friends. Living her Faith was a priority as she and her family remained members and involved in the activities at Concordia Lutheran Church located just a few miles from home. She was involved over the years in Birthday Club, Sons of Norway, Ladies Aid (WELCA), Church Council, Luther League, and Sunday School as well as faithfully attending Church on Sunday even in her later years. Following Valdemar’s passing in 2012, Delores has lived in Fargo with her son Gerald who remained her devoted caregiver. She enjoyed getting out of the house and going places and despite some physical ailments over the years it never slowed her down. Delores was a model of never giving up and determination for her family and friends and always had a smile to light up a room.

She is survived by sons Gerald and David (Teresa), brother Ervin (Opal) Muth (Alexandria), sister Linda Zismer (Alexandria), grandchildren Derek (Kelsey) Hagene (New Prague) and Michael (Shelby) Hagene (River Falls, WI), great-grandchildren Ryker Hagene (New Prague) and Tate Hagene (River Falls, WI), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Ervin and Edna, brother Daniel, sister-in-law Regina Hanson, brother-in-law Myron Hagene, brother-in-law Dan Zismer and brother-in-law Norman Hanson.
