Delores Lamae Fagerstrom

Delores LaMae (Skrien) Fagerstrom passed away November 24, 2022 at the age of 92. She was born on July 10, 1930, in Ulen, MN, the fourth child of Otto and Ida Skrien. In 1932, Otto died, leaving Ida with four young children.

Delores graduated from Ulen High School in 1948 and earned her Associate’s degree from Moorhead State University in 1951. She then taught third grade for three years at Northrup Elementary School in Thief River Falls, MN.

Delores married DuWain Fagerstrom on August 14, 1954, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen, MN, where she had also been baptized and confirmed. Once married, DuWain and Delores moved to Grand Forks, ND – DuWain taught at Grand Forks Central and Delores worked at First National Bank as a receptionist. In 1956, they moved to Moorhead, MN; DuWain was a professor at Concordia College and they became parents of three children, Mary, Jane and Joel.

After all the children were in school, Delores took elementary education courses at Concordia College and in 1971, earned her Bachelor’s degree. She co-owned and taught at Valley Private Nursey School for 20 years, retiring in 1991. She was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and volunteered at a local hospital for many years.

Delores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived with integrity, faith and goodness. She enjoyed needlework, sewing quilts for her grandchildren and creating Norwegian hardanger pieces. Reading was her main hobby.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years and their children: Mary (Ron) Enger; Jane (Eric) Lee; Joel (Susan) Fagerstrom; seven grandchildren: Karissa, Leah (Andy), Jace, Davis, Trenton (Emily), Annika and Kara; and great-granddaughter: Isla. She is also survived by one sister-in-law: Shirley, and 14 nieces and nephews. Delores is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Ida; sister, Carmen; two brothers, Wesley and Vernon; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Delores will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. A livestream of the service will be available on Delores’ webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com where a guestbook may also be found. Burial will take place at Moorhead Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be sent to Christ the King Lutheran Church or Concordia College, both in Moorhead, MN.
