Delyle Curtis Ishaug

DeLyle Curtis Ishaug, 88, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND. DeLyle was born on October 23, 1933, to Hjalmer and Inga (Kopperud) Ishaug in Barnesville, MN.

DeLyle was born and raised in Barnesville where he attended high school until the eleventh grade. He transferred to Moorhead High School where he graduated. After high school, he joined the United States Army where he served his country for two years. After his time with the Army, he joined the North Dakota Air National Guard (Happy Hooligans) where he served for 33 years from 1957 to 1990. At the beginning of his time with the NDANG, he met Marlene Hardina at a dance at Venetian Gardens in Dilworth. They were later united in marriage on November 23, 1958. Together, they raised three girls. When the girls were in high school, DeLyle and Marlene became foster parents for many years and welcomed over 56 children into their home. DeLyle continued his education at Moorhead State University, graduating in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in business. After his retirement from the NDANG, DeLyle and Marlene enjoyed wintering in Panama City Beach, Florida, and later in Mesa, Arizona.

DeLyle was a proud commander of the Moorhead American Legion Post 21. He partook in the Honor Flight in 2015. He was an avid softball player and bowler for the Happy Hooligans and continued his bowling career long after, winning many trophies and awards. He was a huge Vikings and Twins fan. He also loved the Moorhead Spuds and sold sporting event tickets for 20 years.

DeLyle loved the outdoors, camping, motorcycling, and mini biking with his family and friends before purchasing his Lake Cabin on Pelican Lake, MN. There, he taught his family how to water ski and continued the sport well into his older years. DeLyle was very proud of his daughters and granddaughters who followed in his footsteps by joining the military.

DeLyle is survived by his daughters, Lori (Brad Steen) Ishaug, Diane (Doug) Moderow, and Susan Schroeder; grandchildren, Skyler (Kosta) Muller, Shelby Moderow, and Gracie Schroeder; expected great granddaughter; many foster children; and many other loving relatives, friends, and “adopted daughters”. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene, and parents, Hjalmer and Inga.

Visitation will be from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M., followed by the prayer service at 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN, following the service at the church.
