Dennis Charles Spieker, 82, of Glyndon, MN passed away on Monday, October 3rd, 2016 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND, surrounded by his wife and children.
Dennis was born on March 8th, 1934 to Frank and Esther Quinn Spieker in Belle River, MN. He was married to Evelyn Schmidt on April 11th, 1955. Dennis was a business man at heart. Throughout his life he operated and owned many businesses such as Moorhead City Cab which he co-owned with his brother, Ambrose. He also owned the Spotlight Bar, Pawn Shop and Car Wash of Hawley. He was a landlord in Hawley as well, owning both houses and apartment buildings. All of these businesses collectively won him Outstanding Business Man award in 2002. Dennis also owned and operated the Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon, racing being one of his many passions in life. He owned and raced sprint cars with his brother, Ambrose and was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 2007. Dennis was an avid fan of the Twins and the Vikings, and fishing was a favorite pastime as he was voted Minnesota’s greatest fisherman by his family. He loved to travel, did everything he wanted to do and saw everything he wanted to see. Above all else, he loved his family the most and would help anybody and everybody.
Dennis is survived by his wife Evelyn; son, Bob Chris Spieker; Daughters, Judy Steve Germaine, Kim Steve Elrod, Donna McMahan, Brenda Steve Bitker, and Paula Alan Greggersen; Grandchildren, Bobby Melissa Spieker, Matthew Jessica Spieker, Ashley Elrod, Justin Elrod, Melissa Bruce Boedigheiner, Jessica Kris Ferden, Adam Danielle Spieker, Ian McMahan, Sean McMahan, Alex McMahan, Mason Bitker, Ray Greggersen, and McKinna Greggersen; Sister Rita Morton and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Tom Spieker; grandson, Zach Spieker; brothers, Edward, Ambrose, and David; sisters Evelyn, Alvina, and Gladys.
Services will take place on Monday, October 10th, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Hawley, MN with interment at Hawley Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 9th, from 3-6 P.M. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church with a prayer service beginning at 5:00.
