Dennis Keith Patrick Kovash

Dennis Keith Patrick Kovash died unexpectedly on November 12, 2020, at his home in Moorhead.

Born March 17, 1951 in Fargo, ND to Bruno and Blanche (Privratsky) Kovash, Dennis grew up in the Fargo-Moorhead area, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1969. He was an outstanding student-athlete.  A 1968 Sunkist All-American and WCCO All-State running back, Dennis was highly recruited and chose to attend the University of Minnesota. His football days were cut short due to injury; he completed his college days at Moorhead State University but remained a lifelong Gopher fan and supporter.

Dennis married Lynne in 1973 and together they lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin while he worked in sales for commercial lighting companies. They returned to Moorhead in 1983 where they raised Jeremy, Seth, and Jennifer. He was an avid golfer who would sometimes remind his family of his 4 holes-in one, a keen card player, and daily completed the newspaper crossword puzzle. He enjoyed time with friends at the Moorhead Country Club, the Moorhead Legion or perhaps the Speak Easy.  He loved Christmas with his family, and often made a last-minute trip for “just a few more presents.” He and Lynne traveled around the world, and you could often find him on the sidelines of a sporting event for his grandkids; he was deeply proud of his family.   He will live forever in his grandchildren’s memories as “Papa” who loved playing games, making kids smile and simply being with family, especially at the Kovash Bash.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Lynne (Doxey) Kovash.

He is survived by his children, Jeremy (Deanna) Kovash of Perham, MN, Seth (Jennifer) Moland-Kovash of Rolling Meadows, IL, and Jennifer (Jason) Spitzner of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Jace, Maddux, and Evan Kovash, Carl Moland-Kovash, Sydnie and Rylie Spitzner; brothers, Allen (Vana), Mike (Molly), Doug (Beth), and Curt (Luci); and many other loving relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Moorhead Schools Legacy Foundation (PO Box 1006, Moorhead, MN 56561) or American Legion Post #21 Blues Baseball (303 30th St N, Moorhead, MN 56560).

Final resting place will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead, MN, on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at 7:00 P.M.
