Dennis R. Holte

Dennis R. Holte, 68, of Hawley, MN, died July 16, 2015, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family.
Dennis Roger Holte was born on March 7, 1947, in Hawley, MN, to Peter and Esther Hanson Holte. He grew up in Hitterdal/Ulen, MN, graduating from Ulen High School in 1965. Dennis moved to Seattle, WA, where he worked for a short time before relocating back to the Hawley/Hitterdal, MN area. On May 25, 1968, he married Joanne Haugtvedt. A few days later, Dennis was drafted into the United States Army, where he served in the 101st airborne division in the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the war, Dennis and Joanne lived in Georgia while he finished his service in the army. They moved to Moorhead, MN, where Dennis worked at the Coca-Cola plant. He then attended at Wahpeton State School of Science. In 1970 Dennis started working for the United States Postal Service, where he retired in 2008, after 38 years of service.
Dennis was a handyman in many ways. He enjoyed working on cars and helping family and friends with house projects. He loved the outdoors, working on his yard, playing cards and dice, and traveling. He was an avid fan of the MN Vikings, Twins, and the NDSU Bison. Dennis had a love of classic cars, and enjoyed going to car shows. In his younger years, he liked to spend time at his in-laws cabin on Little Pelican Lake where he was often found playing horse shoes. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Dennis will be remembered for his smile and witty, dry sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Hawley; daughter, Laurie Jeremy Swanson, Alexandria, MN; son, Ryan Melissa Holte, Rogers, MN; sister, Carol Robin Ritchie, Bothell, WA; brother, Gene Freda Holte, Tustin, CA; sister-in-law, Norma Holte; four grandchildren, Kolby and Kellan Swanson, Owen and Elise Holte; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Esther Holte; brother, Kermit Holte; and sister, Marilyn Selseth.
Visitation: Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
Funeral: Monday, July 20, 215 at 10:00 a.m. in Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus, Fargo, ND.
Interment: Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, MN.
