Derrick D. Yates

Derrick Yates, 23, Fargo, ND, died at his home on Tuesday, November 3, 2009.Derrick was born on March 30, 1986, at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, to David and Jill Fischer Yates. He and his mother moved to Fargo in 1989. She married Jeffrey H. Lund on July 13, 1991, and they made their home in Fargo. Derrick attended Washington Elementary, Ben Franklin Junior High and graduated from North High in 2005. He was interested in sports and was active in football and track. Derrick was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in Fargo and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Fargo. He enrolled at North Dakota State University in the fall of 2005 and majored in Criminal Justice. He was a very competitive runner in the NDSU Track and Field Program. He was to graduate in the winter NDSU commencement on December nineteenth. His career goals included application for officer's school in the U.S. Coast Guard and eventually wished to work in a warm climate.Derrick is survived by his parents Jill Jeff Lund, and David Yates; brothers David Yates, Opelika, Alabama, Austen Lund, Fargo, and Brooks Lund, Fargo; grandparents, John and Pat Fischer, Fargo, Brenda and Robert Yates, Opelika, Alabama, and Roald and Janet Lund, Pelican Rapids, MN; many aunts and uncles.
