Devonne Walters

September 4, 1942 — May 10, 2020

DeVonne Gail Walters died peacefully at home, in the presence of her family, at the age of 77, on May 10, 2020.

DeVonne was born to Richard and Arlit (Doran) Keeping on September 4, 1942, the first of four children.  She grew up and attended school in Hawley, MN, graduating in 1960.  After graduation, she attended Interstate Business College.  On June 6, 1964, she married Donald Walters in Hawley, MN.  Together they had three children.  She worked as a homemaker, waitress, and worked at Carl’s Lefse for over 30 years.  They made their home on a farm south of Hawley where they farmed, raised cattle and pigs and eventually Don had his own body shop in which DeVonne had the job of cleaning the vehicles after he finished fixing them.

She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, reading, and going to the casino.  She was a member of Gran Lutheran Church where she held many positions including being the president of the Ladies Aid.  She enjoyed time spent with her church family and loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

She is survived by two daughters, Marie (James) Rikhus, Hawley, MN, Julie (Linden) Pfeiffer, Hastings, MN; one son, Steven (Karrie) Walters, Moorhead, MN; one brother, Douglas (Marsha) Keeping; one sister, Rebecca (Gary) Hilliard; six grandchildren: Ryan Rikhus, Austin Rikhus, Katelyn Rikhus, Aiden Pfeiffer, Elias Pfeiffer, Oliva Pfeiffer and  one great-grandchild, Norah Rikhus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Roger Keeping, and twin grandchildren, Kristine Rikhus and Kyle Rikhus.

A private graveside service will be held at Gran Lutheran Cemetery in Hawley, MN.  A celebration of life will be planned for a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that memorials be given to Ethos Hospice or Gran Lutheran Church.
