Dewey Olson

Dewey Kipling Olson, age 71, of Moorhead, Minnesota, died at Eventide on Thursday, May 2, 2019.  He was born on July 16, 1947 in Fargo, ND, to Emil and Esther (Hexom) Olson. He was Baptized and Confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at Clearview in rural Moorhead, high school at Moorhead State Teachers College Campus School, and went on to graduate from Northland Technical College, Thief River Falls, MN.

Dewey married Diane Beckerleg on August 23, 1969 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead. They lived in Moorhead, Fergus Falls, and Golden Valley before returning to Moorhead in 1975. He farmed closely with his father and his brother. Due to health, he retired in 2003 to enjoy his friends, family and grandchildren and hoe weeds in the vacant lot next door. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He enjoyed weekly breakfasts at the Frying Pan with his farm management group. He was a fan of youth hockey and the Minnesota Vikings.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Diane; his children, Kari (Cincinnati, OH), Kirk and Katie (Moorhead, MN), and Kyle and Melanie (Fargo, ND); his grandchildren, Anna Hedman, Thomas, Carter, Nathan, Kipling, and Tucker Olson; sister-in-law Donna Olson and brother-in-law, Dan Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Judith (Allan) Evernham, E. Robert Olson, and Ardys Zimmerman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association of Minnesota-North Dakota.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 9, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead. The funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 10, 2019, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Moorhead.
