Diana T. Puhr

January 8, 1948 — November 3, 2009

Diana Thorun McArthur was born January 8, 1948, in Fargo, North Dakota. She was the second child and first daughter of mother, Thorun Thorwaldson McArthur and father, Donald Sundell McArthur. She was adopted as an infant and was the delight of everyone who knew her from birth to death. Diana was born with cerebral palsy and minor developmental disability. She lived with a brother and two sisters in Lidgerwood, ND, until 1960, when the family moved to Fargo, ND, where she attended Agassiz Junior High and Central High School. She graduated in 1967, the last class at Central High. Diana attended one year at the Anne Carlson School for the Handicapped during her elementary school years. She married August Puhr in June of 1973, celebrating their 36th wedding anniversary in 2009 and lived in Fargo until her death. In 1967, she joined the Baha'i Faith which has a strong and supportive community in Fargo. She was preceded in death by her mother 1967, her father 1997 and her brother 2009. She has two living sisters, Cynthia McArthur of St. Paul, MN, and Alison McArthur of Columbus, OH; cousins, Margaret Dahl of Moorhead, MN, Andrea Knutson of Woodbury, MN, and Laoni Davis of Eugene, OR, who were close and supportive extended family to her. She has three nieces, one nephew and one great niece, along with friends and family of all ages and places who were important to her throughout her life. Diana was a long time member of the Baha'i Faith. She served on local committees and traveled throughout the state donating Baha'i books to local libraries. She had a strong love for all things Elvis…they shared the same birthday, and presents for birthdays, holidays and special occasions were always items related to her love of Elvis, from books, CDs, t-shirts, and collectibles. She and her husband moved into her father's home during his last years of his life to care for him. After his death, she began volunteering at Bethany Homes as a volunteer on the memory care unit. It was a calling she enjoyed greatly. Diana was the historian in her family, not just remembering a time or year something happened, but the day, month, year and other details that were always lost on the rest of the family. She loved her family, loved being married to Augie, loved her Baha'i Faith and community and loved her extended family and all news that came from near and far of loved ones. She was a great daughter, sister, wife, cousin, friend and volunteer. May she rest in peace and enjoy her new world with God.
