Donald A. “The Duck” Van Raden

Donald Anthony Van Raden, AKA “The Duck”, was born to Norman and Florence on May 28, 1939, in Moorhead, MN on the homestead that he remained on his entire life. He died at home on Thursday, September 8, 2022, under the care of hospice in his sleep. He’s now with God and his strength has returned.

Donald graduated from Moorhead High School and was especially proud of being athlete of the year. He belonged to the Elks and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked as a carpenter his entire life and built his present home in 2008 with his brother Charlie. He was an avid fisherman making many trips to Canada, and a hunter belonging to the Broken Arrow Club. Donald had many good times owning the Georgetown Bar and bear hunting with his late wife, Linda. He married Teresa Kinney Moen in 1996 and enjoyed his retirement with her traveling, two cruises, many trips to the casino to see shows, rummage sales, watching the birds and squirrels eat their daily treats, spoiling his beloved pets and Happy Hour. Donald was quite the gardener, canner, shopper and cook. His specialties were banana bread, apple chips, sauerkraut, and head cheese. If anything needed to be done, we’d say “He can.” Donald was often grumpy and argumentative, but you knew he cared by his gift of giving. He especially enjoyed celebrating all the holidays at his home and Sunday dinners with the family.

He’s survived and blessed by his wife, Teresa; children, Angela Matney, Megg Reinholt, Ronald Van Raden, and Tracy Morris; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Charlie and Dick; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, Vernon, and James; sister, Joyce; and three late wives, Judy, Marie, and Linda.

A funeral service with Livestream will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022, at 3:00 PM with a visitation one hour before the service at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
