Donald B. Hurner

Donald B. Hurner, 85 years old, of rural Glyndon, MN, joined his Savior on 12th day, May, 2019.

Donald Bruce Hurner was born on February 9, 1934, in Moorhead, MN, to Fred and Crystal (Mart) Hurner. He was a life-long resident of Morken Township, Clay County, Glyndon, MN, where he graduated from Glyndon High School.

He bought his first land when he was 12 years old. He assisted his father with raising crops and livestock until leaving for the service in 1955. Upon his arrival home from Korea, he went to a play at Felton High School where Beverly asked him to her prom. They married on January 31, 1959 and moved into their life-long home, which Donald built on the Hurner Farmstead. This is where they raised their three children. The farm has been in the family for three generations with Craig continuing the business.

Don and Bev spent many winters on Sanibel Island, FL. Donald enjoyed spending time at their lake home, but most of all he enjoyed having his family all together and always loved taking others out on the lake. Don’s favorite hobby was FISHING! He loved to catch, clean, smoke, eat, and give them away!

He enjoyed embroidering tea towels, wall hangings, and quilt squares. He learned how to embroider from his first grade school teacher, Rose Johnson. He pulled so many threads with a needle that he wore the eye right out of it.

Don spent many years of service to his community serving on the board for Morken Township, Kragnes Elevator, and his church.

Don is survived by his son, Craig (Carla) Hurner, Glyndon MN; son-in-law Tim McLean; daughter Jodi (Sean) Dianchrist, Farmington, MN; grandchildren, Daniel (Hannah) Hurner, Ashley, Reid, and Josiah Hurner, Sonja (Nathan) Stang, Tyler and Logan McLean, Zach and Nick Dianchrist; great grandchildren, Eloise, Adelynn, and Maisie Hurner. He is survived by two brothers, several nieces, and nephews

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly (Dittmer) Hurner of 56 years; daughter, Kari (Hurner) McLean; father, Fred Hurner; mother, Crystal (Mart) Hurner; brothers, Myron Hurner, and Orval Hurner

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Don’s name to Farm in the Dell.
