Donald C. Nelson

Don Nelson, 78, of Glyndon, MN passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Villa St. Vincent, Crookston, MN.

Donald Claire Nelson was born in Fargo, ND on November 29, 1938 to Gustave and Clara Christianson Nelson. He grew up and attended school in Dilworth, MN, graduating in 1956. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served two years in Korea.

In 1961, while cruising down Broadway Avenue in Fargo, he met Phylis Richards and they were married on August 5, 1961 in Glyndon, MN.

Don worked as a truck driver and dock man for 30 years until his retirement. He enjoyed being outside and going for walks. He also had a passion for woodworking, gardening, fishing and while healthy, never missed a day of feeding the birds.

Don is survived by his wife; daughters, Julie Nelson, Sheila John Mahlke Young, Karne Scott Nelson-Zilka; son, Chris Maria Nelson; grandchildren, Austin and Jessica Young and Daniel and June Zilka; brother, Howard Lorita Nelson, sister, Eileen Larsen and sister-in-law, Joyce Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordon and sister, Kathleen.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley and the staff at Villa St. Vincent for the wonderful care they provided Don.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM with a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Interment will be in Comstock Cemetery.
