Donald D. Lontz, 90, of Moorhead, died Monday, May 27, 2013 in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.
Donald David Lontz was born on January 25, 1923, to Clifford and Charlotte Black Lontz in South Bend, IN. His father died in 1927 and subsequently he moved to Fargo in 1933 with his mother, two sisters and brother. Don graduated from Fargo Central in 1941. He attended Wahpeton School of Science and Fargo Business College. Donald joined the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, where he worked on B-17 bombers in Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Roberta Miller, on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Together they raised five children.
Don worked at the Fargo Forum, founded by his grandfather Norman B. Black. He worked in their advertising department for 40 years. Don and Roberta started a picture framing business called Framing Arts in their home. After Don’s retirement they expanded the business and opened Lontz Art Gallery in 1985 on 8th Street in Moorhead.
Don enjoyed spending time with family at Lake Crystal and Lake Sallie, working in his yard and gardening. He will also be remembered for his sense of humor.
He is survived by two daughters, Claudia Ron England Lontz, Scottsbluff, NE, and Cathy Dean Mollerud, Moorhead, MN; two sons, David Debra Lontz, Pelican Rapids, MN, and Steven Meg Lontz, Minneapolis, MN; son-in-law, Steve Shauna Slabik, Lake Ida, MN; grandchildren, Cathy Jeff Hanna, Katy Ben McCormick Mollerud, Jenny Slabik, Kelly Lontz, Nicholas Lontz, Grant Lontz, Mandi Keil, and Eric Gerst, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Roberta; daughter, Shirley Lontz; brother, Bill Lontz; sisters, Jane Stern and Anne Selvig.
The family would like to thank the staff at Eventide for their exceptional care for Don over the years.
