Don was born November 29, 1935 in Fargo, ND to Martin and Ida Gulland Johnson. After high school he trained to become a radio announcer at the American Institute of the Air in Minneapolis. Don joined Northwestern Bell Telephone in 1957, and retired from the company in 1986. Donald met and married Frances Wynia in Platte, South Dakota on July 3, 1955. Don and Frances raised three children in Fargo before enjoying early retirement in the Cormorant Lakes area. Fran died in 1995. Donald met Nita Sauerbrei in 1996 and they enjoyed being winter Texans together for the last sixteen years. Donald is survived by his son, Jeffrey Tammy of Wichita, KS; two daughters, Marie Jeffrey Johnson of Rice, MN, and Teri Kevin Dahl of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Leah Travis Johnson, Robyn Stoller, Angela Smith, Erin Dahl, Andrew Johnson, Bridget Johnson and Kelsey Dahl; great-grandchildren, Hydie Thomas, Thurston Smith and Elliot Johnson. Donald is also survived by his sister, Connie Mike Corbin; several nieces and nephews, and many, many good friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Reynold, and sister, Ima. Memorial may be designated to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Cormorant Lutheran Church.
