Donald “Donny” Edward Skyberg

Donny Skyberg, 84, of Moorhead, MN, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 4, 2021.

Donald Edward Skyberg was born May 22, 1937 in Arvilla, ND, to Clarence and Myrtle (Bakken) Skyberg. He graduated from Greenbush, MN High School in 1956. Donny proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 and completed his basic training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He attended postal school at Fort Benjamin in Harrison, Indiana and worked in the post office while in the Army.  Donny was stationed in Korea for 2 years and was honorably discharged in February 1960.

Donny attended Hubb City Bible Institute in Aberdeen, SD for 2 years and then Moorhead Technical College for 2 years where he obtained a degree in accounting.  He had an enormous love for books and learning. He had a library of over 3, 000 books that filled his home. Donny began working for the Lake Agassiz Regional Library, a job he enjoyed until he retired in 1999.

After retirement, Donny began volunteering as manager and president of the Moorhead Thrift Shop, a job that quickly became the great love of his life.  The mission of the thrift store was to give back to the community, donating all profits to other non-profit organizations, and Donny was the perfect reflection of that mission as he genuinely cared for everyone that walked through the door, greeted everyone with a warm smile, and took time to make everyone feel important.   In 2017, Donny reluctantly left the thrift store due to increasing health concerns.  He had donated over 20,000 hours of service to this community that he loved, an investment of time that filled his humble heart with joy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Donny is survived by his sister, Rose Nelson and brother-in-law Marvin Nelson, Thief River Falls, MN; numerous loving nieces and nephews and special friends, Ben Stevermar, Zach Peterson, Sandy Hanson and Kris Webb. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Conrad Skyberg, Adeline Nelson, Clarice Trontvet, Evelyn Johnson, Shirley Olson, Harvey Skyberg, Elaine Thompson, and baby Skyberg.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.  Interment will be at Oiland Cemetery in Greenbush, MN on Friday, December 17th at 12:00 P.M.
