Donald E. Dale

Donald Everett Dale, Moorhead, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the age of 91. Donald was born on June 29, 1928 to Anthon and Sophia (Sanderson) Dale in Howard, SD. He grew up in Howard and attended Howard High School. He entered the Army at age 18 in September of 1946. He served in the Pacific and was honorably discharged January 31, 1948 with a rank of corporal. He graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 1952. It was at Concordia that Don met Dorothy Larson.
Don and Dorothy were married in Hannaford, ND July 26, 1953. They were married 66 years and always did everything together. They made their home in Moorhead and raised three children, Anne, Robert and Mark.
Don began working during college in the Registrar’s office at Concordia. Upon graduation, Concordia hired him as the Registrar. He loved helping students fill difficult class schedules to ensure they graduated. After 41 years as Registrar, he retired in 1993.
Don was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church since 1953. He served on the church council, was church council president and served on numerous committees. He sang in the church choir for 62 years. Don and Dorothy also enjoyed singing in the choir at Eventide. Don was active in Kiwanis, was a C-400 member, served on the board of directors for Eventide Lutheran Home and the Moorhead Housing board. Don loved to bowl, fish and do woodwork.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents; brothers, Stewart and Richard; sisters, Genevieve Trooien and Doreen Ness. He is survived by his daughter, Anne of Crystal Lake, IL, son Robert (Susan) of Moorhead, MN and son Mark (Jane) of Savage, MN; four grandchildren, Kate (Charles) Speer, Emily (Sean) Richards, Matthew Dale and Andrew Dale; and four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Richards, Brooke Richards, Addison Richards and Colin Speer.
Don and Dorothy lived at Eventide Linden Tree for 4 years and the family would like to give special thanks for Eventide’s loving and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Friday, September 13 at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. The funeral will be at 10:30 am Saturday, September 14 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Moorhead.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Concordia College, or Eventide.
