Donald Halvorson

Donald Halvorson, 78, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 in Essentia Health Hospital, Fargo, ND. Neil Donald Halvorson was born on March 5, 1940 to Neil and Bessie (Preisler) Halvorson in Erskine, MN.

Don graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1958. After graduation he worked for the B-BAR-B Ranch in Felton, MN. Later, he managed Bill Hallstrom’s farm in Bejou, MN. He began work with Mahnomen County Road and Bridge Crew as supervisor and foreman while gradually working his way into carpentry. Working with his father, they did carpentry work throughout the area such as building pole barns for farmers. Don was united in marriage to Linda Busse on August 20, 1960 in Mahnomen, MN. Don and Linda made their home in Bejou, MN where they raised their three daughters. They moved to Moorhead in 1974 where Don began working for Home Improvement by Stenerson. He continued to work there until his retirement in 2017.

Don was very proud of the flowers and plants he had landscaped around their home. He was even more proud of his children and grandchildren. Don enjoyed spending his time with friends, family, and his beloved cat, Benny. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was very interested in people, he had a great sense of humor, and everybody who knew him, loved him.

Don is survived by his wife, Linda Halvorson, Dilworth, MN; children, Brenda (Jimmy) Owen, Pensacola, FL, Rhonda Rice, Moorhead, MN, and Melissa (Rich) Nelson, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Kara Allen, Maddie Rice, Ella Rice, Ryan Nelson, and Wyatt Nelson; brothers, David (Darlene) Halvorson, Bob (Paulette) Halvorson, and Rick (Deb) Halvorson; sisters, Jane (Brad) Schultz and Peggy (Dean) Gunderson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Bessie.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
