Donald L. Krause

Donald L. Krause, 81, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN. Don was born on March 26, 1933, in Fargo, ND to William and Esmere Tomhave Krause. At age five, the family moved to Fergus Falls, MN where he began his education. Don graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1951. He then attended Concordia College, Moorhead, and completed three years when he was drafted in to the U.S. Army in 1954. He served two years with one year in Bomholder, Germany as a cryptographer. After his discharge in 1956 Don completed his education at Concordia College and graduated in 1957. That same year he began employment at Concordia College where he remained for fifty years in various positions as athletic coordinator, purchasing agent and manager of the Concordia motor pool. He served in the Army Reserve Co. B and ND National Guard for twenty three years.

Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead and served on the church council, a member of the Moorhead Kiwanis Club, C-400 Club, Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame and he received the Ole and Lucy Flaat Distinguished Service Award at Concordia in 1998. Don also was the “corn cooker” for the annual Cobber corn feeds for thirty five years.

Don married Helen Oltman on June 30, 1962, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, and they made their home in Moorhead for fifty one plus years. Don is survived by his wife, Helen, three daughters, Mary Krause, Minneapolis, Julie John Stuit, Smyrna, GA, Susan Kyle Lundgren, Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Jack and Lilly Stuit, Erik Lundgren; and three sisters-in-law, Roselyn Krause, Peggy Krause and Carol Regelstad.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James Krause and Leroy Krause.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
