Donald O. Engebretson

Donald Engebretson, 82, Moorhead, MN, died on Saturday, August 20, 2011, in The Fairmont, Moorhead, MN.Donald was born on September 25, 1928, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Oscar and Myrtle Radeck Engebretson. He grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes and Hitterdal, MN, graduating from Hitterdal High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1948 and attended Business College in Detroit Lakes for two years. Don married Kathryn Schumacher on February 12, 1949, in St. Cloud, MN. They lived in Detroit Lakes and Morris, MN, and Aberdeen, SD, before moving to Moorhead in 1955. Don worked for Hanson Brothers Construction and then started Don Engebretson Construction in 1969, which he operated until retiring in 1993. Don and Kathryn spent their winters in Mesa, AZ. Kathryn died on May 29, 2003. Don had been living at The Fairmont for the past three and a half years.He is survived by his sons, Danny Ginger and Lee Janet Engebretson, both of Moorhead; daughter Linda McShurley, Gilbert, AZ; brothers Duane Carolyn Radeck, Fargo, and Charles Kathy Radeck, Moorhead; sister Marilyn Brims, Blaine, MN; seven grandchildren, Craig, Jim, and Nathan McShurley, Niki Osborne, Brandon Engebretson, Lacy Werre, and Brian Engebretson; eleven great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn.
