Donald O. Hinrichs

Donald O. Hinrichs, 88, of Hawley, MN, died Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Donald was born July 16, 1929, in Goodhue County, MN, to Gustave and Flora (Firl) Hinrichs. He grew up and attended school near Zumbrota, MN, before beginning his career. On December 3, 1949, Donald married Joyce Vandewerker in Moorhead, MN. Together they made their home in Glenfield, ND, and started a family. Donald continued his work as a Lineman with Tri County Electric. He took pride in his work and enjoyed his time there until retiring after 42 years. Following retirement, they lived in Sibley, ND, and enjoyed spending time at the lake and with family.

Donald is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Terry (Claudia) of Carrington, ND, Jon (Annette) of Hawley, MN; daughter, Donita (John) Walen of Park Rapids, MN; grandchildren, Michael (Tara) Hinrichs, Jeff (Sara) Hinrichs, Dustin Hinrichs, Ryan (Jill) Walen, Krista Walen, Alec (Jackie) Hinrichs, Riley Hinrichs, Keifer (Stacie) Hinrichs; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Arlis Jacobson.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine (Sid) Owens; brother, Bobby (Rose) Hinrichs; and brother-in-law, Bob Jacobson.

Memorials given will be used to establish a Donald Hinrichs Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Memorial gathering will be Saturday, January 13, from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m., at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN.
