Donald R. Harsh

Donald was born in Osakis, MN, April 14, 1927, as a twin, to Howard and Elizabeth L. House Harsh. Don graduated from school in Osakis and enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Snelling, with his twin brother. They were trained and worked in the finance office in Paris, France with the 137th Finance Division. He was discharged in January 1947. Don went to college at St. Cloud State College. After graduation, he taught math in Alexandria, MN, where he met Dorothy Dale. They were married December 28, 1952 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN. Following their marriage they moved to Delano, CA, where he taught for four years. He obtained a Masters at NDSU, and became Principal in Lake Park, living on Big Cormorant Lake. He moved to Robbinsdale, MN and taught math again, retiring in 1983. In the summers he developed a campground on the Cormorant property named Camp Tee Pee. After selling the campground, he purchased another property on Big Cormorant, where he built his retirement home. He was an active member of the Cormorant Lions, where he headed the can recycling for several years. He was also a member of Strandvik Lutheran Church, AARP of Detroit Lakes, and the American Legion Post #181 of Lake Park. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, son, David, who died a few years ago, four brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Harsh of Lake Park, MN; son, Dale Rebecca Harsh of Nowthen, MN; daughter, Diane Richard Gonzales of Denver, CO; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
