Donald S. Melby

Donald “Don” Sigvart Melby, 81, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015, in Sanford Health’s Palliative Care Center, Fargo, ND. Don was born September 27, 1933, in Fargo, ND, to Sigvart and Tillie Tinjium Melby. He grew up and attended school in Ulen, MN, before joining the U.S. Army in 1950 and serving until 1956. Don married Ardis Burud in February of 1952. Together they made their home in Moorhead and raised their three children, Diane, Dan and Nikki. Over the years, Don worked at McHose Mattress Co., Moorhead Schools and Mauseth Auctions. In November of 2012, Don underwent a successful kidney transplant.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ardis; son, Daniel Heidi Melby; daughters, Diane Everhart and Nikki Aipperspach; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; nieces, Sandi and Paulette; and his devoted dog, Chico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Palmer.

Don was special in many ways. He loved country life, lakes, horses, animals, and enjoyed wood working. He took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The farm boy in Don will continue his journey in Heaven.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 9, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
