Donald Wood

Donald Wood, age 87 of Moorhead, MN, passed away on August 31, 2017 at Eventide on Eighth in Moorhead, MN. He was born September 24, 1929 to Ralph and Florence Tollefson Wood in Minot, ND.

Donald graduated from Shanley High School, later attending North Dakota State University in Fargo ND. Dad was a US Navy veteran and lifelong American Legion supporter. He also served in the Knights of Columbus, Elks Club and several small business organizations. Don worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 27 years while also owning and operating Ralphs Corner Bar in Moorhead for 48 years with his family.

Traveling, Canadian fishing and a good game of cards with family and friends were a few of his passions, along with the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Don was a legendary story teller - ‘To make a long story short’, - usually meant pull up a stool and get comfortable… If you met Dad once, you acquired a friend for life.

Survivors include his son, Michael Lori Wood; grandchildren, Joseph Kacey Wood, Dana Wood fiancé Dan Gorghuber, and Donovan Wood; great grandson Jonathan Wood; sister Shirley Leck; brother Robert Wood; and many other loving relatives and dear friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Florence; sister Bonita Gust; brothers in law, Don Gust and Robert Leck; ex-wife and friend Rita Wood.

Visitation and will be held on Thursday, September 7, from 5-6:30pm with a prayer service beginning at 6:30, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead. Funeral service will take place at 10am on Friday, September 8, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Donald’s family would like to acknowledge the caregivers of Essentia Health, Davita Dialysis and Eventide on Eighth for the wonderful, dedicated service given to Dad and others entrusted to their care.

In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of Don’s generosity, memorials are preferred to the Catholic Schools Network or a Veterans Service Organization of your choice.
