Donna Backlund

Donna L. Backlund, 87, of Cummings, ND, died Monday, June 2, 2014 in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Donna Lou Gilbertson was born on December 3, 1926 in Roslyn, SD to Oscar and Palma Cornelius Gilbertson. She grew up in Roslyn, where she graduated high school. She briefly moved to Minneapolis to work after graduating. On May 30, 1948, she married Peter Backlund in Hickson, ND. They made their home in Harwood, ND until 1955 when they moved to the Grandin area. They most recently lived in Cummings, ND, moving there in 2007.

Donna worked in various jobs throughout her life, but most importantly she raised her four children. She was also very active in helping with all of their activities and clubs. Donna was a member of the Sons of Norway, Homemakers Club and Bible Study throughout her life.

Donna is survived by her husband of 66 years, Peter, Cummings, ND; three sons, Peter David Joanne Backlund, Plymouth, MN, Michael Shelly Backlund, Harwood, ND and Paul Joleen Backlund, Hickson, ND; daughter, Patricia David Mueller, Cummings, ND; sister, Myrna Robert Mettler, Grandin, ND; four grandchildren, Kari Maanum, Justin, Abigail and Hannah Mueller; brother-in-law, Erv Backlund, Moorhead, MN and sister-in-law, Irene Backlund, Fargo, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; special cousin, Curtiss Peterson; grandson, Brian Maanum; and brothers-in-law, Carroll Backlund and Wally Backlund, and sisters-in-law, Ethel Backlund and Clarice Backlund.

Visitation: Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Friday, June 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Hickson Lutheran Church, Hickson, ND.

Interment: Lower Wild Rice and Red River Cemetery, Hickson, ND.

Luncheon to follow the interment at the Sons of Norway in Fargo at 12:30 p.m.
