Donna M. Wallace

November 19, 1935 — March 2, 2018

Donna Marie Wallace, 82, of Chaska, MN, passed away on March 2, 2018, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer and with her children holding vigil by her side in her final days.
Donna was born on November 19, 1935, to Edward and Johanna Aune of Cromwell Township and was their youngest of five girls. She was suppose to be the first of her siblings to be born in a hospital but a snowstorm hit and instead she was born at home. She was baptized and confirmed at Lysne Lutheran Church. She spent her childhood growing up in Cromwell Township, Glyndon, and graduated from Hitterdal High School in 1953.

After high school, Donna moved to Minneapolis to be with her sisters. She began her career working at Northwestern National Bank of Minneapolis. A few years later, she moved to Denver, Colorado and it was there that she was married. They then moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where their first son was born. They then moved to Minnesota, where their second son was born and then to Columbia, South Carolina, where their third son and only daughter were born. She lived in South Carolina for many years before moving back to Hawley, Minnesota, where she worked at First National Bank of Hawley. In the early 1990’s she moved to the Minneapolis area and was employed by Lifetouch Portraits until she retired. She spent her last 15 years living in Chaska, MN.

Donna was a talented and creative seamstress who loved to tailor her own clothes, she was always eager and willing to sew projects for her daughter and granddaughters. She loved to shop and always had a great sense of style. She was young at heart and very wise. She was the player always sought out in a game of Trivial Pursuit. She was sometimes lovingly referred to as Google Grandma, as she was always craving to learn and always searching for answers and looking information up on her cell phone. She was passionate about her family and proud of her Norwegian heritage.

She loved to tell stories about growing up on the farm and her time spent there with her sisters and her cousins who lived nearby and about her adventures as a young adult as she ventured out into the world. She was a loving mother, doting grandmother, and was she ecstatic to become a great-grandmother just days before her passing. Donna will be forever loved and greatly missed.

Donna is survived and will be greatly missed by her children Patrick (Lori) Wallace of Hawley MN; Wayne (Tracy Scola) Wallace of Little River, SC; Pamela (Lane) Herbstritt of Chaska, MN. Sister Joanne (Robert) Anderson of Burnsville, MN. Her grandson Christopher (Ragan) Wallace; granddaughters Lexie and Maisie Wallace; Jonna, Tessa and Amber Herbstritt; Addison Wallace; great-grandson Brody Wallace.

Donna is preceded in death by her son Chris Wallace; her parents Edward and Johanna Aune; sisters Eileen (Kenneth) Handegaard, Jewel (Lowell) Johnson, Lorraine (Morris) Mickelson; nephews Duane Mickelson and Michael Johnson.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 2nd, 2018, at 2 PM at Lysne Lutheran Church, 20500 80th Ave N, Hawley, MN.
