Donna Mae Solum

Donna Mae (Luthi) Solum, 92, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Eventide on 8th, Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN.

Donna was born on March 19, 1932, to William Luthi and Gladys (Knutson, Luthi) Carlson in Hawley, MN. She grew up in Hawley where she attended and graduated with Salutatorian honors from Hawley High School. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Solum on May 26, 1951, at the Hawley Lutheran Parsonage. She began her 28-year career as a bank teller at Hawley State Bank, retiring in 1990. Bob & Donna made their home in Hawley, raising four daughters, engaging in community and church activities. She lived at Fairmont Assisted Living in Moorhead before moving into Eventide on Eighth in 2017.

Donna was a lifelong member at Hawley Lutheran Church, and an active member with the American Legion Auxiliary, Study Club, and Birthday Club. Bob and Donna enjoyed traveling to visit their daughters across the country, including Hawaii and Alaska, and a cherished tour to Norway, Sweden and Denmark in 1986. Faith, family and friends were an important part of her life. She was immensely proud of her family, and if you had the time, she loved to tell you about her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Becky Schwendeman, Christine Thysell, Mary Jarvis, and Sara Solum Hayashi; grandchildren, Stacey (Grant) Gooding, Alex (Tia) Thysell, Jim (Dr. Heather Yocum) Schwendeman, Rachel Thysell, Kelsey (Brad) Barnes, and Torrey Hayashi; great-grandchildren, Jameson, Beckham, and Lottie Gooding; Kami and Evan Thysell; Jack and Remy Schwendeman and Everett Barnes; brother-in-law, Dr. Allan (Pat) Solum: and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob; parents, William Luthi and Gladys Carlson; brother, Gordy Luthi; sons-in-law, Steve Schwendeman and Thom Thysell; and stepbrothers, Richard and Michael Carlson.

A memorial service will be held a later date. The final resting place will be at Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, MN.
