Doris B. Blakeway

Doris B. Blakeway, age 100, of rural Hawley, MN passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.

Doris Beatrice West was born on March 14, 1919 in Lucca, ND to August and Julianna (Menge) West. Doris attended school in Dilworth before her family moved to a farm in the country when Doris began helping on the farm and caring for her siblings. Doris married Virgil Blakeway on December 6, 1938. They had five children, Virginia, Diana, Roger, Curtis and Gloria. Virgil and Doris lived in the Junction-Dale area of Hawley since 1952. Doris enjoyed raising her children and caring for her home. She also ran a popular upholstery business on the side and was known for her talented work.

Doris loved cooking, canning, baking, flower gardening, and scrapbooking in her later years. She cherished having her grandchildren stay with her over the summer and having friends and family stop by to visit.

Doris is survived by her sons, Roger (Patty) Blakeway of Hawley, and Curtis Blakeway of Milwaukee, WI; daughters, Virginia Blakeway of Hawley, Diana (Harry) Evert of Excelsior, MN, and Gloria Blakeway of Minneapolis, MN; brothers, Ken (Gwen) West and Ross “Blacky” West; many grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a few great-great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; brothers, Frank West, Rusty West, Tom West, and Lyle West; and sisters, Alice VanTessal and Florence West.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00 A.M., with a visitation starting one hour before, at Hawley United Methodist Church, Hawley.
