Doris Kilichowski

Doris (Knutson) Kilichowski, 76, of Hawley, MN, died September 2, 2018, at Elim Rehabilitation and Care Center in Fargo.

Doris Jean Van Wey was born 6/24/1942, in Madison, WI, to Vern and Fay (Burnett) Van Wey.  The family moved often while Doris was young, as her father worked for farmers and ranchers.They moved from Arkansas to Minnesota when she was about 6 years old.  Doris went to the Reisch Worldwide College of Auctioneering in 1981, and she returned to school and completed her GED when she was in her 50’s.

Doris married Leroy Knutson in 1959 and they had two children, Loren and Sue. Doris married Joseph Kilichowksi in 1974 and they had one daughter, Genafay.  While the children were young, Doris stayed at home to care for them, but then later she worked for American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, MN and Drayton, ND for about 15 years.

She loved horses and was an avid horse rider all her life.  Doris was a member of the Golden Riders in Hawley and the Drayton Saddle Club for many years.  She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed greatly by the ones closest to her.

Doris is survived by her son, Loren Knutson, Hawley; daughter, Sue (James) Thompson, Sherwood, ND; daughter, Genafay (Dennis) Pokrzywinski, Drayton, ND; brothers, Glen Van Wey, Oklahoma, and Leonard Van Wey, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Tasha Thompson, Brittney Hecomovich, Alyssa Brein, Tyber Pokrzywinski, Damian Pokrzywinski; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Hadley Jo and Aaden; very special companion, Robert Okke, Hawley, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leroy and Joseph; brothers, Darrel Van Wey and Vern Van Wey Jr.; and sister, Mary Jane Djurich.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 1:00 P.M., with visitation for one hour before the service, at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley.  Interment will take place at Sherwood Union Cemetery in Sherwood, ND on Monday, September 10^th at 1:00 P.M.
