Doris Larson, 92, Fargo, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Touchmark Retirement Home in Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Doris Irene Lawrence was born June 27, 1924, the daughter of George and Irma Eliason Lawrence, in Moorhead, where she grew up and attended school. Following high school, she worked for Grant Battery, the Internal Revenue Service and Moorhead Public Schools. She also worked for the Intelligence Department of the Navy in California during WWII.
On April 2, 1949 Doris married Norman Ohnstad. He died July 29, 1957. She married Ernie Larson on February 14, 1972. Doris volunteered at the Hjemkomst Museum in Moorhead giving tours at the Stave Church. Ernie and Doris spent 40 years in the winter in Mission, Texas. Doris volunteered teaching water aerobics and Norwegian Hardanger in Alladin Villas Retirement Park in Mission.
Doris is survived by her husband, Ernie, Fargo; her son, Tom, Sioux Falls, SD; her sisters-in-law, Laurine Muhle and Ardis Jim Haarstad Johnson, and her brother-in-law, Julian Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her parents, and her sister, Mildred Thompson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Devonshire, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and Griswold Home Care for their wonderful care of Doris.
