Doris Marilyn Mattson, 83, of rural Lake Park, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, July 29, 2016, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, from a massive brain aneurysm.
She was born August 10, 1932 to Minnie and H.W. Anderson and grew up in rural Lake Park. She attended country school and graduated from Lake Park High School in 1949. She married Vernon Mattson on October 22, 1950, at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal.
She was a very active member of Salem Church. Family was most important to her and she devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved sharing her love of painting, sewing, baking and gardening.
Doris redefined the terms “mother” and “grandmother.” She loved to attend games, concerts, and anything to do with family. Everyone else came first for her and she voluntarily scheduled her life around their activities. Doris would drop everything to help others.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Betty Richard Mattfeld, of Underwood, MN; three sons, Robert Julie Mattson, Richard Lisa Mattson, and Roger Laurie Mattson, all of Lake Park; son-in-law, Dwight Hanson, of Audubon; sixteen grandchildren, Brent, Angela, Jeremy, Jamie, Joshua, John, Justin, Derek, Danelle, Dustin, Craig, Ashley, Corey, Emma, Jack and Luke and eighteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, H. Clifford Anderson, of Hawley, and Elvin Dorothy Anderson, of Lake Park, brother-in-law, Arvin Forness, sister-in-law, Ruth Iverson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Vernon, her daughter, Debra Hanson, her grandson, Jesse Mattson, her parents and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
