Doris Olive (Williamson) Severinson, 95, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at Viking Manor, Ulen, MN.
Doris was born on July 25, 1926, in Kittson County, MN, one of five children born to William and Judith (Erickson) Williamson.
Doris was active in 4-H during her youth, earning a trip to the Minnesota State Fair with her food preparation demonstration. She enjoyed outdoor nature walks and could recognize many wildflowers and birds.
She attended country schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1946. Doris spent her career teaching and retired from Hawley Public Schools in 1982. Previously she taught in rural schools in Bowman and Inkster, ND, and rural Clay County, MN. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mayville State College in North Dakota.
Doris Williamson and Sigurd “Sig” Severinson were married on June 11, 1955, in Kittson County, MN. Following their marriage, Doris worked beside Sig on his family’s dairy and small grain farm in Eglon Township. Together, they raised two children. Doris was a volunteer with women’s programs, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School at Solem Lutheran Church. She also was a leader in Clay County Extension Homemakers, a 4-H club leader, club project leader, and county level volunteer with Clay County 4-H programs. Doris enjoyed all types of needle arts, music, and spending time with the family. She especially enjoyed teaching others how to crochet.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, William and Judith; sisters, Evelyn Williamson, May (Clifford) Lindquist, and Joyce (Gustav) Haug; and brother, Jerald (Doris) Williamson.
She is survived by her husband, Sigurd Severinson; son, Tim Severinson, both of rural Hawley, MN; daughter, Margaret (Richard) Godke, Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Meganne Godke, Altamonte Springs, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Solem Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, MN. Burial will be at a later date. A recording of the service will be available shortly after.
