Dorothy A. Oberlander

Dorothy Oberlander, age 82, of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully on March 9^th, 2021 at Lilac Homes in Dilworth, MN.

Dorothy Ann was born on July 25th, 1938 in Mayville, ND, to Theodore and Alma (Besrud) Groven. She grew up on a farm in Sherbrooke Township near Portland, ND, and attended school at Primrose Township #2 and Interstate Business College in Fargo.

She married Edwin Oberlander on February 18, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN. They made their home in Moorhead and enjoyed 59 years together until his passing 10 months ago.

Until her eyesight failed, Dorothy’s interests were painting, gardening, cooking and driving her car.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her granddogs.

Dorothy will be remembered for her resilience, unconditional love, wonderful sense of humor and contagious laugh.

She will be missed as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Dewald (Randy Silver), Fargo; one son, Tim, Moorhead; her grandchildren, Elizabeth (Andy) Lerud, Jessica (Michael) Stecher; and great-grandchildren, Beckham Stecher, Maya Stecher, Carter Lerud and Caleb Lerud all of Fargo; her sisters, Diane (Marlin) Balstad of Hatton, Rose Seigel of Jupiter, FL, and her brother, Tom Groven, Fargo.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; her parents; and her brothers, Robert Groven and Marlan Groven.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Lilac Homes in Dilworth and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the personalized care that they provided.

A private family memorial service will be held.

Dorothy will be laid to rest in Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND, next to her husband, Edwin.
