Dorothy A. Teigen

Dorothy Ann Teigen was born July 9, 1919 in Minneapolis, MN to Austin H. and Hanna Setness Teigen. She died Sept. 9, 2014 at Eventide Lutheran Nursing Home, Moorhead.
She was baptized on Sept. 3, 1919 by Pastor Erik Belgum of Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, MN, and confirmed by Pastor L.O. Anerheim at the Minnesota Valley Church on Sept. 10, 1933.
She attended rural school #45 Lake Shore Township through the 8th grade and graduated from Appleton High School in 1937. She then attended Moorhead State Teachers College for 4 years, graduating with a B.S. degree in elementary education in 1942.
Dorothy taught 3rd grade in Crookston, MN for 2 years, Groveland School in Minnetonka, MN for 2 years, and Hawthorne School in Fargo, ND 19 years.
Travels took Dorothy to visit relatives in Norway 18 times, from 1951 to 1990. She also toured much of the European Continent, the Holy Land and Lands of the Mediterranean including Egypt, Hawaii, the Western and Southwestern U.S. and Western Canada.
Dorothy’s favorite hobbies were crocheting and Hardanger embroidery, reading historical novels and stories from different lands and cultures, and baking, especially traditional Norwegian pastries such as Kransekake. Her special interest in art was evident in the many seasonal decorations she created and shared with the residents of Eventide Lutheran Home.
She was a member of Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church, Madison, MN; the National Education Association; Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead; Sons of Norway, Fargo, ND; and the Alumni Association of Moorhead State University.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; 5 uncles: Ole, Fredd and Eddie Teigen in America and Halvard and Johan Brendmo in Norway; 3 aunts: Olga Teigen Nelson in the U.S.; and Anna and Olina in Norway; and nearly all her friends from school, work and church.
She is survived by several cousins in Norway: Halvard Ruth Pettersen, Marit Tokle and Jorunn Myhre, all of Vinstra, Norway; Halvard Brendmo, Kjeller, Norway, and Hanna Sigstadstø, Lillehammer, Norway; several second cousins in America; dear friends Marie Hulterstrum, Litchfield, MN and Maren Nassori, California.
