Dorothy E. Heglie

December 30, 1915 — December 25, 2012

Dorothy Elvina Heglie, 96, of Fargo, passed away with family by her side, on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Bethany on University in Fargo, North Dakota.
Dorothy was born December 30, 1915 in Christine, N.D.to Nels and Ellen Nellermoe. She was the last surviving sibling of eleven children. She grew up in Christine, graduating from Christine high school, playing church organ, teaching Sunday School, playing piano in a dance band and spending time with her large family.
She married Orville Heglie on November 20, 1945. They were a fun and happy couple. Dorothy spent many years in the retail industry but her most valued employment outside her home was that as a decorator for the Simon brothers of Simon Furniture. She retired from Simon’s in 1979 but always maintained her flair for home decorating.
Dorothy was especially committed to her family and spent many years as the glue that held her nine brothers together and caring for her parents as they aged. When her niece Jean decided to compile a family history, Dorothy was proof reader “in chief” as she knew the history well. They spent months working together to create “the book”. She had a wonderful strong spirit and a fun loving sense of humor. She was a great cook, a listening ear, and ready to offer good advice when needed. She was never self-serving and always looked out for the welfare of others. She had a strong spiritual faith and trust that things would turn out the way they should. She was a wonderful wife, mother, Grandma Dot and GG Dot. There is insufficient space to capture the wonderful moments and ways she touched so many in her life.
She is survived by her daughter Jonelle Birch Burdick, Fargo, her grandchildren Kevin Kristin Cannon, New Franken, WI; Scott Cannon, Minneapolis, MN; Kim Kallevig, Edina, MN and three great-grand-children, Megan and Lucas Cannon and Cooper Kallevig. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, friends and relatives of all ages.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Orville; daughter Mary; sister Abbie; brothers, Archibald, Morris, Newell, Melford, Arthur, Eugene, Earl, Karrol and Harold Bob.

Special thanks to the caring staff on Elmwood Square at Bethany on University and to Dr. Ron Wiisanen for the care and compassion shown to Dorothy.

Memorials are preferred to Olivet Lutheran Church or the Bethany on University Pet Fund in Dorothy’s memory.
