Dorothy Jean Cederberg, age 81, of Hawley, MN, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.Dorothy Jean Berland was born on May 16, 1930, to Edwin and Ruby Berland in Lake Park, MN. She grew up and attended country school in rural Lake Park as well as public school. Dorothy then attended Minnesota State University Moorhead for two years to earn her teaching certificate. On May 27, 1952, she married Charles "Chuck" Cederberg in Atlanta Lutheran Church. Shortly after their marriage, Chuck's military service took him to Korea. He returned to the United States and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii for a short period of time where Dorothy joined him. Together they moved to California and eventually back to Hawley, where they have resided since. Dorothy loved crafts of all types, most specifically hardanger. She was strong in her faith, serving on many church boards, committees, clubs and circles. Dorothy was a very active community leader, serving in numerous capacities. Most important to her however, was the time she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren and lifelong friend, Ethel McDougall. Blessed be the memory of Dorothy Jean Cederberg. She will be missed dearly by her family and her many friends. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Chuck of Hawley, MN; three children, Julie Wade, Ross Deb Meyer and Curt Julie Hokenson all of Hawley, MN; daughter-in-law, Annette Cederberg of Hawley, MN; sisters, Darlene Bloom of Green Valley, AZ, Patricia Zurn of Detroit Lakes, MN, Rita Raymond Olson of Peoria, AZ and Mavis Lavin of Prescott, AZ; six grandchildren, Heather, Jesse, Haley, Cody, Emily and Trevor; one great-grandchild, Hunter and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Danny; daughter, Debbie, in infancy and brother, Palmer Berland.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Roger Maris Cancer Center or Living Grace Church in Hawley.
