Dorothy (Havrish) Lund, 101, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN. Dorothy was born on September 10, 1917, to Vasil (William) and Mary (Sivanich) Havrish in Minneapolis, MN.
Dorothy was baptized at St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral in Minneapolis, MN. She was raised in North East Minneapolis and attended Edison High School. After high school, she worked for Honeywell, Gedney Pickle Company, and sorted eggs at an egg factory. She was united in marriage to J. Oliver Lund on June 17, 1939 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN. Together they moved to Minnetonka, MN, where they purchased land, built a house, and raised a family. Dorothy remained there until the last five years of her life when she moved in with her daughter, Marjorie, in Moorhead, MN.
In her earlier years, Dorothy was quite active in athletics and enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, swimming, ballet, and tap dancing. She was an active member at Oak Knoll Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved going on camping trips with her family, enjoyed watching old movies and sports, specifically, Minnesota sports. Dorothy was a compassionate woman who loved everyone around her.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Richard Lund, John Lund, and Marjorie (Leonard) Markusen; grandchildren, Jeremy (Mark Johnston) Lund and Jessica Markusen; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vasil and Mary; husband, J. Oliver Lund; daughter, Geraldine; siblings, Gerry (Paul) Kuehn, Ann (Ralph) Schwalbe, Ollie (Richard) Knight, Peter (Mabel) Havrish; daughter-in-law, Diane Lund; and nephew, Bill Schwalbe.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A second memorial service will be held at Oak Knoll Lutheran Church, Minnetonka, MN, on Monday, November 26, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Final resting place will be at Old Settlers Cemetery, Hovland, MN, in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to American Cancer Society, Trinity Lutheran Senior Ministry, Eventide, or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
