Dorothy Mae Nelson Zuehlsdorff, 90, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, in Eventide on 8th, Moorhead, MN. Dorothy was born October 3, 1924, to Harry and Alice Christianson Nelson and grew up on a farm outside Elbow Lake, MN. Following high school she continued her education at what was then Moorhead State Teacher College, now Minnesota State University Moorhead where she studied to be an elementary school teacher. While at the Teachers College, she met her future husband, Morey. They were married when he was home on a short leave from the Army in June of 1944, and spent 45 years together until Morey’s passing in 1989.
Dorothy taught for many years at Lewis and Clark Elementary in south Fargo. Retirement brought Dorothy and Morey to Mesa, AZ, where they spent many wonderful years. In her later years she returned to Moorhead to be near family. She loved to sing and over the years was active in the adult choirs at Trinity Lutheran in Moorhead, the Linden Tree Circle choir and the senior choir at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Mesa, AZ. She was also an excellent seamstress and a lover of warm days and nights at the family home near Big Cormorant Lake.
Dorothy is now dancing in heaven with Morey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morey.
Dorothy leaves behind three children, Douglas Joan of Laporte, MN, Richard Marlene of Oakland, CA, and Pat Willis Frazee of Moorhead, MN. In addition she leaves six grandchildren, Vance Julie, Krista Frank, Marnie Rob, Marck Alison, Ryan Nicole, Erin Jay and twelve great-grandchildren living throughout the world – Alaska, Australia, California, Costa Rica, Eagan, MN and Rochester, MN.
Dorothy’s memorial service will be held on Friday, April 10, at 2 p.m., in Bottolfson Chapel at Eventide on 8th in Moorhead. A memorial gathering will be one hour prior to the service in Bottolfson Chapel.
Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
