Douglas T. Isaacson, a beloved husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather died peacefully in his home, April 13, 2024.
Born in Fergus Falls, MN, he was the youngest of three boys born to Timan and Anne Isaacson. He was raised on their family farm in Barrett, MN where he attended elementary through high school. Doug had fond memories of he and his brothers Andrew and Brenton fishing on the river behind the farm. He was married to Linda Kalland from 1967-1976. They had one son, Jason. Jason was everything to him and they were best friends. They spoke almost daily about anything from serious life to Star Wars Trivia. In 1990 he married Barbara Vierzba (Melting). He became stepfather to Krista and Katelyn. They adored him and he enjoyed his new parenting role.
Through the Grace of God and the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, Doug had continuous sobriety for over 38 years. He truly learned the benefits of service to others. He had a special love for people in the fellowship. Doug attended meetings regularly and cherished his coffee times at various restaurants. He lived for the yearly fishing trips. Sometimes he even fished.
Other things to know about Doug.
He was wildly in love with his grandkids. Doug felt blessed to be their grandpa.
He flew remote-controlled airplanes with a great bunch of fellow airplane geeks who became lifelong friends.
Doug was a master craftsman in whatever he built.
He loved to eat. Doug’s Oyster lunches with Bruce at Beer and Fish and Brew Hala were highlights of his eating career. He loved you all while he was on earth and continues that love in heaven.
Doug is survived by his wife Barbara, brothers Andrew and Brenton. His in-laws John Melting, Judy (Glenn) Monson, Ruby Melting, and Rita Wildt. His son Jason (Cynthia) Shoreview, MN. Krista Loke (Mason) Moorhead, Katelyn Vierzba, Denver, CO. Nephews Tim (Nancy) Isaacson, Philip (Michelle) Isaacson. Grandchildren, Iver, Owen, and Esme Isaacson, Ella and Ziya Loke, numerous grand nephews and nieces, program friends, too numerous to mention. Lastly – Addison and Waffles, two beautiful goofy labs.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts and uncles, his sisters-in-law Bonnie Isaacson, Sharyn Melting, Nancy Leslie, and brother-in law Don Melting.
Doug believed in Jesus. He is in heaven, joyfully united with friends and family who have gone before him. He is pain free. If you must, mourn him for a time but then celebrate. Celebrate his life on earth and the goodness and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ who is our redeemer.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 5-6:30 PM with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
