Douglas K. Dcamp

Douglas Kevin DCamp, 60, formerly of Buffalo, Minn., passed away suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016 at his home in Moorhead following a 16-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, Dec. 1 at Living Waters Lutheran Church in Fargo, N.D., with Pastor Bob Bekkerus officiating. Burial will be held following the service. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 am Thursday at the church.

Doug was born on June 17, 1956 in Champaign, Ill., the second of six sons born to Charles and Joyce DCamp. He grew up Watervliet, Mich., East Moline, Ill., and Riverdale, Iowa.

Doug was a 1974 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School, Riverdale, Iowa, where he was a standout football player, and also lettered in track & field and band.

He played clarinet in the PV Concert Band and tenor sax in the PV Jazz Ensemble. As one of the top musicians in the state, Doug was selected to participate in numerous honor bands during his high school career. He was chosen to participate in Iowa’s All-State Band during both his junior and senior years of high school. Also during his senior year at PV, Doug received the John Phillip Sousa award as the top musician in his school.

Doug continued playing clarinet while attending St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. He studied computer science and it was during his sophomore year at St. Ambrose that Doug met the love of his life, Ronda McNally.

Doug graduated from St. Ambrose on May 20, 1978. One week later, on May 27, 1978, Doug and Ronda were united in marriage at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa.

Doug and Ronda made their home in Des Moines, Iowa from 1978-1984 and in Altoona, Iowa from 1984-94. Together they raised two sons, Scott, born in 1979, and Jarod, born in 1982.

In August 1994, Doug fulfilled a lifelong dream when the family moved to Minnesota when both he and Ronda accepted job offers from Fingerhut. The family settled in Buffalo, where Doug and Ronda would reside for 21 years.

Overall, Doug worked in computer programming for 35 years at companies like Dyal, UCB, First Interstate Bank, Iowa Power/Midwest Power, Fingerhut, AIC and Lawson Software.

In 2000, Doug was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He continued working throughout his battle with Parkinson’s until a separate battle with lymphedema forced him to retire in 2013.

Doug enjoyed playing and listening to music. He was a true “do it yourselfer” who enjoyed working on home improvement projects at his various homes over the years and at the family cabin in Blackduck, Minn.

He also bowled and played softball, but above all else he was the number one supporter of his children’s football and basketball games, wrestling meets and band concerts.

Doug cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren Callum, Brittyn, Storm and Camden.

In August 2015, Doug and Ronda moved to Moorhead to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Doug is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ronda, Moorhead, Minn.; sons Scott April, Thief River Falls, Minn., and Jarod Sara, Fargo, ND; grandchildren Callum, Brittyn, Storm and Camden; father Charles, Bettendorf, Iowa; brothers James, Hondo, Texas, David Sheila, Cary, Ill., Richard Michelle, Oshkosh, Wis., Paul Deborah, Riverdale, Iowa, and Jon Kristine, Savage, Minn.; mother-in-law Wanda McNally, Luana, Iowa; sisters-in-law LuAnn Bill Symes, Gardner, Kan., Terri Tom Paulson, West Des Moines, Iowa, and Dawn Cameron Harris, West Union, Iowa; brother-in-law Patrick Susan McNally, Marquette, Michigan; aunt Luan Joe DCamp, Citrus Heights, Calif.; uncle Roger MacDonald, Grand Marais, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Joyce in 1987; father-in-law Robert in 1998; and niece Rachel in 2000.
