Alan R. Johnson M.D., age 74, of Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008, in his home after a long battle with leukemia. He died with his family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Alan Richard Johnson was born on August 5th, 1934 in Isanti, MN. He has one brother, Paul. He was preceded in death by his father in 1943 and mother in 1999. Alan graduated from Cambridge High School in 1952 and the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1960. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was accepted into the Naval School of Aviation Medicine. After receiving his Naval Flight Surgeon Wings he served with the 3rd Marine Air Wing aboard various aircraft carriers in the western Pacific and participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis and High Altitude Nuclear testing on Johnston Island in 1962. He married Jeannine Bailey in 1962. She was not only his wife and companion but mother to their three children, Dr. Gregg Johnson Kolleen, Richard Johnson Lorinda and Elizabeth Ann Miller Dr. Shane Miller. They have been blessed with six grandchildren.Alan practiced medicine in the Navy, in Windom, MN, at Park Nicolet Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, in Pelican Rapids, and taught at the University of North Dakota Medical School in the residency program. He was a member of Lions and Kiwanis.He and Jeannine enjoyed each other's company and traveled extensively together. They moved to Cormorant Village in 1989 and are members of Cormorant Lutheran Church. Alan took pleasure in maintaining their beautiful lawn, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and Jeannine, and was proud of his children's educational and professional accomplishments.In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Cormorant Lutheran Church, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or to a charity of donor's choice.
